Day 3

The Seed of the Gospel

Mark 4: 30-32 – “And He said: “How can we illustrate the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use to describe it? 31 It’s like a mustard seed that, when sown in the soil, is smaller than all the seeds on the ground. 32 And when sown, it comes up and grows taller than all the vegetables, and produces large branches, so that the birds of the sky can nest in its shade.”

The basis for all culture is agriculture. Jesus describes in Mark 4 what the basis of the culture of the Kingdom God is by sharing three agricultural related parables. First, He describes the parable of the four soils. The seeds planted in the fertile, FOURTH soil, produce a multitude of Kingdom life. Then He shares the parable of the growing fields in Mark 4:26-29 that describes the organic system God instituted for Kingdom growth. The farmer begins with the harvest in mind, and abundantly sows the seeds of life. In the third parable, Jesus describes the Kingdom of God as the smallest of seeds, the mustard seed. Yet, this humblest of all seeds will grow to be the largest in the garden, and give comfort to all that seek its rest and shade.

The humblest of all seeds is the Gospel seed sown into the soil of peoples lives. Oh the magnificent beauty and power of this seed. The Gospel seed contains the power of creation – making all things new. This little seed contains the glorious power of the blood and the resurrection - breaking the curse of sin, and providing abundant life. This seed transforms a person on the inside and renovates a person on the outside. From the Gospel seed a new community is formed bursting forth with the vibrant beauty of compassion and justice. The restoration of the city is at hand , and the evil giants of culture come tumbling down when the Gospel seed is sown in abundance. Yes, this seed will grow to be the largest of trees covering an entire city, and will comfort everyone seeking rest and shade. The Zeal of the Lord will do this!

Abba Father, we rejoice at the coming of the Good News of the Gospel in this city. May you usher in a gospel awakening like this city has never known before. Many a prayer revival has been seen in this city, but would you usher in , Oh great and mighty God, a revival of obedience. Pour fuel on the Great Commission embers in your churches...rekindle the fire! Blow Spirit of the Living God, Blow! Ignite the flames of passion to sow the Gospel seed. Renew the urgency to proclaim the Good News in this city. Raise up the laborers filled with your Zeal. Cultivate the soil to raise up men and women that will multiply your fame in this time and this place. Slay the giants of corruption, violence, poverty, idolatry, and injustice. May your Kingdom come, may your will be done, in Houston as it is in Heaven. May the mighty arm of God do this!
